Rhubarb – Momma Bun

Hello, I’m Rhubarb. I was rescued from an unfortunate situation where I was living in very poor conditions outside. The rescue also took in two of my babies that were living with me and my husbun, Mango. The babies, Thing One and Thing Two, went to foster homes. Mango and I had to be separated until we could both be spayed and neutered.  We didn’t want any more babies! Mango got neutered and went to a foster home to wait for me.  Unfortunately, Mango had some health issues and he sadly passed away.  In the meantime, my spay appointment was approaching.  Just a few days before my spay appointment, I surprised everyone with a litter of 12 baby bunnies!  Being a backyard bunny, I have had too many litters.  With the help of the rescue, all of my babies survived and have grown up to be happy, healthy bunnies and are now ready for homes of their own, including me! No more breeding for me!

Both myself and Mango were large ruby eyed bunnies.  All of my babies have ruby eyes and will be large like us when fully grown. Ruby-eyed bunnies are often left behind because some people are put off by their eyes, but the ruby eyes often have such interesting and beautiful shades – ruby, rose, lavender, or pink! Did you know that ruby eyed bunnies are some of the sweetest, most gentle bunnies around?  If you are having issues bonding your bunny to another, ruby eyed bunnies make great companions.  We have great temperaments, big personalities, and will make an awesome addition to your home!

To prevent more situations like mine, the rescue spays and neuters all of the bunnies that come into their care.  Myself and all of my babies will be scheduled for surgery when they are old enough.  This places an unexpected strain on the rescue.  Vet costs are expected to reach $4500.00 for me and 14 babies.  In addition to the financial needs, we will all need foster homes!

If anyone would like to foster myself or any of my babies, please fill out an application.  If you would like to contribute to our vet costs, you can do so on our donate page or give directly to our account at Sunrise Animal Hospital.  The bunnies will thank you!
